Library Loot: At Least, What the Cat Will Reveal

Image
I love My Library. Often I visit virtually, but I treasure my trips to the wonderful building. I traveled to my local branch Friday afternoon, and I carried out some really good books on home organization, world history, sci fi, and more. My cat Ginger — pictured below with (or, rather, on) my library loot — supports my reading, as long as my lap remains available for her occupation. So far, so good. My Library helped me channel my Inner Organizer with a few books on home organization and decluttering. When I got the message from the library that my books were ready, I hurried on over to pick up: Love the home you have Living simple, free & happy: how to simplify, declutter your home and reduce stress, debt, and waste Knack organizing your home: decluttering solutions and storage ideas Whether or not any of that wisdom sticks, My Library did its part. I had considered writing a Haggadah for my family because I had yet to find one that inspired me (nothing personal, ...

Library Loot: Three Print Books and an Audiobook

Image
I went to the library this week and got some loot: I borrowed two books and purchased a third, only one of which is on my original summer reading list.  (Like that's a surprise. We all know I make the list, I chuckle, and then a I reach for whatever I darned well please. Hey, it's summer reading: no rules, just reading! Plus, can you blame me if I stray with so many great choices?) I shall read at least one this weekend, possibly two (if I am ambitious).  I am excited that one is Ruined , a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by a playwright new to me, and the others are by authors I know and enjoy. I have encountered Lynn Nottage in numerous articles lately, so it's really a sort of sign that she is in my loot today. I also am excited about listening to Eric Weiner 's new book. I so enjoyed his Geography of Bliss and I can't wait to see what he has to say about "genius." As for Cristina Henríquez 's book, I almost didn't leave the library b...

Library Loot: Fragments, Hugo and a Secret

Image
I checked out three library books this week. Each has a specific role in my reading life.  I am very excited! Fragments by Marilyn Monroe. She wrote poetry, or at least fragments of poetry. Why am I surprised that this artist would commit her poetry to paper? Rest assured, Poetry Wednesday will benefit from this. The Invention of Hugo Cabaret by Brian Selznick. I sent it to my friend Marie for her birthday last year, and I haven't read it. I will remedy that before I see her again. I haven't seen the movie — have you? Did you enjoy it? Do I want to see it? Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda. My book club read it, but reviews are mixed at best. I haven't consumed it yet, and I may wait to read it until all of the reviews are in. For the first time this calendar year, I have no materials on hold. I returned Ruby Red earlier this year before I could read it, and you know how I love time travel fiction. I may set it up for hold to pick up in October — than...
